What Does the Paleo Diet Involve?

The Paleo diet is a fairly simple one. Instead of counting calories, tracking macronutrients or pouring over nutrition labels in the supermarket, you ask yourself one simple question: “Could a caveman have eaten this?”

This means cutting out gluten, grains, dairy and processed junk and following a simpler diet. While following a Paleo-style diet you can eat meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and tubers. That list allows you to make some pretty tasty meals.

Acne is a multi-factorial condition and each person has different triggers for it. However, nutrition and hormone levels are both major contributing factors. High testosterone levels are frequently associated with skin problems and poor nutrition is also a common cause. If your skin is generally unhealthy because you are not getting enough healthy fats, vitamins A, C and E, glutamine or zinc, then you are more likely to suffer serious outbreaks.

Candida infections can also trigger outbreaks and a diet rich in cakes, biscuits, chocolates and puddings creates an environment where candida can thrive.

Following a Paleo dietary plan means avoiding sweet foods, yeast, cheese and other things that are generally associated with skin problems. In addition, the diet encourages you to eat vegetables, herbs, nuts and oily fish all things that are good for your skin.

 

Paleo Meals to Improve Your Complexion

The flexibility of this diet makes it easy to experiment with a wide range of different foods. You can eat any meat you like although if you want to follow a truly Paleo nutrition plan you should choose grass-fed beef over grain-fed beef and look for wild fish instead of farmed fish.

Combine your chosen meat with some herbs. Mint, oregano, cilantro, dandelion, basil and burdock are all good choices. Each of these herbs (especially if eaten fresh) is rich in nutrients which will cleanse and protect your skin.

Instead of serving up your meat with chips, or in a bread bun, accompany it with some green, leafy vegetables. If you want to add some extra bulk, opt for sweet potatoes. Green, leafy vegetables have anti-oxidant properties. Vegetables that contain a lot of water actually have diuretic properties, which can help to flush out your system, clearing your skin in the process.

The benefits of following this kind of diet come partly from improved nutrition and partly from the things that you are not eating. By simply cutting out processed junk and drinking more water, you should see a massive improvement in your complexion. Stick with the Paleo plan for a while, however and you will also see your energy levels improve. If you’re an athlete, you should notice improvements in your strength and stamina too.
